Reading Challenge: TBR Pile 2013

And another one-- The 2013 TBR Pile Challenge hosted at Roof Beam Reader.

This is commitment numero dos. I really need to do this one. No 'ands, ifs or buts' about it...when you see my list you're probably going to think: "What--She hasn't read that yet? why?" And all I can say is I know, I'm a literary slacker, blah blah blah.

Anyways, twelve books for this challenge. There are simple specifications on which books to choose from and how to go about updating challenge progress (something about a master list)...go here for more details.

The list (to be read in no particular order):

1. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
2. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
3. The Things They Carried by Tim O' Brien
4. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
5. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
6. Love in a Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
7. The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper
8. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
9. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
10. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
11. Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
12. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

...so many 'classics'. How did that happen?

  1. Oh. My. Goodness. Your list is amazing!

Lolita? Loved it! One of the best books I’ve ever read.
    The Bell Jar? Incredibly moving.
The Things They Carried? Fantastic! Chose it as my book for World Book Night this year.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest? So good – more to it than meets the eye. I’ve written 3 papers on it.
To Kill a Mockingbird? Not my favorite – but a classic well-worth reading (and many peoples’ favorite!)
Their Eyes Were Watching God? BRILLIANT!

I also want to read every other book on your list, but haven’t yet. Incredible choices! You’ve got an awesome reading year ahead of you in 2013. I can’t wait to follow your reviews. 

    1. Haha. I'm glad you think it's an amazing list. I'm looking forward to each one of them. Especially the Kingsolver and The Things They Carried...and The Bell Jar and the Morrison and--well the entire list. I don't know why I let so much time pass without reading them.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. You have a very respectably TBR, ma'am. Those people with over 100 books in it a freaking me out. I have 10 titles in mine, but it's been worse earlier this fall.

    1. why thank you...my entire list has about 30 in it, but these are the more pressing ones that I want to read. I wish I could get back down to ten. I hate that I'm a slow reader sometimes.

  4. An ambitious list! Mine is much less so, but still I only managed 2 of 12 last year, so I hope to do better this year. I've read about half the books on your list, but could stand a re-read on all of them, except for To Kill a Mockingbird which I just read again fairly recently. It really has stood the test of time! Have no desire or plan to read The Last of the Mohicans, though, unless I see your review and it convinces me!

    1. I have always wanted to read The Last of the Mohicans...I feel like I have this unrealistic, completely off-base, romantic notion of what the book is about...but we'll see. I'll probably love it. Hopefully, I write a worthy review too.

I have a feeling I'll get through this list pretty quickly, now that I've spoken (typed) my commitment into existence...

      Thanks for visiting my blog!
